About Virtus
Virtus is the ammunition distributor of True Velocity composite products based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. We are a unique company because Virtus is currently the only certified ammo distributor of True Velocity ammo. Our mission is to build a business committed to family, community, and teamwork.
Before Virtus, Darren worked as a Deputy Sheriff for 12 years and a Range Instructor for five. During his time in law enforcement and as a range instructor, it became obvious to him how important it is to have reliable, high quality ammunition for both shooting efficiency and safety. He saw firsthand how varying ammunition works, the challenges of always using something different and never having enough stock. While he enjoyed his job, he wanted to do more for the ammunition industry. He began inquiring and researching ammunition and supply chain demands and decided to take the leap out of law enforcement into the business world.
Darren worked to fine-tune his practice as Virtus operated in the Midwestern states until entering into a partnership with True Velocity ammunition. True Velocity is an amazing company with an incredible reputation for manufacturing efficient and accurate ammunition.

Outside of work, there are two very important causes that my family and I are passionate about: children’s hospitals and service animals. After I had a child with a severe and debilitating long term illness, I am very supportive of children’s hospitals and work hard to help families with children that are suffering. Having seriously ill children is very stressful and overwhelming, and the people and programs designed to help families dealing with these circumstances are invaluable.
During my career and in my personal life, I have seen time and time again how amazing and helpful service dogs are. Whether they are bringing comfort to those who are sick, aid to the disabled or missing, or protecting our troops and communities, they are extraordinary aids that better our lives. Supporting and furthering these efforts and programs are very important to us and something we are focused on serving in our personal and professional lives.
I enjoy spending time with my boys, teaching them, working with them, and learning from them. I love spending time with our dog, Loch. He is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and brings a ton of personality and joy to our lives. He is very expressive and always reminds us how wonderful the amazing world around us is. In addition to being the Virtus company mascot, Loch is preparing to begin his service dog training.”
