Testing Ammo at 100 and 700 Yards
True Velocity challenges their polymer-cased, Nozzler Custom Competition .308 Winchester against the best match-grade factory ammunition around. We wanted to see how True Velocity polymer-cased, Nozzler Custom Competition .308 Winchester ammunition compares at 100 yards and 700 yards. We collaborated with our friend Jeff from Desert Tech. Desert Tech provided a few of their select rifles for the testing of the Polymer-cased, Nozzler Custom Competition .308 Winchester against a few other ammunitions. We will be taking into consideration the chronograph data.
What is chronograph data?
The word ‘chronograph’ means ‘time recorder’. Chronograph usually is tracked by watches to measure periods of time. When we test out ammunition, we test the FPS, which is short for feet per second, of each shot to receive chronograph data.
Polymer-cased, Nozzler Custom Competition .308 Winchester Comparison
- Gold Medal MatchKing
- Hornady Tap
- Bonded Tip Match
- Speer Gold Dot
- Tipped MatchKing
For each ammunition tested, we shot 5 times at 100 yards and select ammunition at 700 yards. Below are the results of each ammunition shot at 100 yards. The circled target is the True Velocity Polymer-cased, Nozzler Custom Competition .308 Winchester ammunition.
100 Yards Shooting Result

- Top Left: Bonded Tip Match
- Top Right: Tactical Tipped Federal
- Middle Left: Speer Gold Dot
- Middle Right: True Velocity
- Bottom Left: Gold Medal MatchKing
- Bottom Right: Hornady Tap
At 100 yards, it is clear to see how accurate each shot was and that they are fairly similar. With that being said, it is important to acknowledge that there are a few of the tests that can be viewed as considerably better.
