When Will The Ammo Shortage End? The Great 2020 Ammo Shortage

Home|Archives forAmmunition

For Americans across the country, 2020 will be the year recognized for the COVID-19 Pandemic and a wild presidential election. As for gun owners in the United States of America, they remember 2020 as the beginning of the most extreme ammunition shortage of their lifetime.

What Caused the Ammo Shortage in 2020?

Gun Counter

The great ammo shortage was impossible to predict. All at once, the COVID-19 outbreak and the restrictions that were put in place slammed the brakes on a thriving and booming United States economy. When the economy fell apart, many businesses that were financially stable prior, nad no choice but to shut down operations. Some were temporarily shut down, others were permanently shut down.

The worldwide supply chain clasped instantly when individuals all around uncontrollably searching for surgical masks, rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer,  toilet paper, staple food items, and of course, firearm ammunition.

The ammo manufacturers are not the only ones to blame for the ammo shortage.

Civil madness broke loose as it did in the 1960s. Guns and Ammunition were flying off the shelves like never seen before. Much of this was sprouted from fear. Civilians were in fear of the future. This shortage is also caused by the hoarding of civilians. Greedy, worried customers share a piece of the blame. The events of 2020 were extremely motivating for gun owners to stockpile.

In addition, many individuals became new firearm owners in 2020. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) estimated that 8.4 million people bought their first firearm in 2020.

Many gun owners adopted the mindset of seeing and buying no matter the type of ammo, whether they need it or not.

Ammo and gun distributors have been establishing buying limits. This also goes for other products in grocery stores such as toilet paper or staple foods. Without buying limits, there would be outrageous amounts of “Scalping”.

What is Scalping in Economics?

What is Scalping in economics you may ask? Scalping is the process of buying high-demand products at face value, then reselling them at highly exaggerated prices. Scalping hikes up the prices of ammo. Scalping is still happening but it has been minimized with the implementation of buying limits.

Is There Still an Ammo Shortage Happening Today?

The horrific ammunition shortage that began last year continues to carry on. This shortage is predicted not to end anytime soon. It is believed that the ammo and gun shortage will prevail through 2021. Select ammo and gun distributors have kept the buying limitations in effect still to this day.

Is the end of this great ammo shortage in view?

Unfortunately, there’s no idea when ammunition inventories will go back to normal and shelves will be stocked. Nonetheless, consumers can be at ease knowing the fact that ammunition manufacturers are giving their all. They are continuing to produce rounds as quickly as possible,  in record numbers. Today, True Velocity is producing polymer cased ammunition rapidly.

True Velocity .308 WIN – Nosler AccuBond: Elevate Your Shooting
  • 165-grain Nosler Accubond projectiles
  • State-of-the-art Packaging
  • 20 count retail-box
  • Unprecedented Accuracy and Consistency
  • 30% reduction in weight

Nosler AccuBond

The AccuBond’s unique white polymer tip secures precision, accuracy, and smooth chambering. It provides undeniable reliability for hunting. 165-grain Nosler Accubond is created for accuracy close or distant. The effect of Accubdon design is a bullet that flies correctly and infiltrates deep without generating extensive barrel fouling.

What is Barrel Fouling?

Barrel fouling is the result of the bullet components residue after shooting. Debris found in the barrel of the gun, like powder and moisture, create corrosion that must be cleaned.

State-of-the-art Packaging

We understand how important quality packaging is for ammunition. We only back the best manufacturing. This is why Virtus trusts and supports True Velocity. They take pride in every product and piece they manufacture. The packaging is created of high-quality materials that will be able to obtain the ammunition completely until ready for use.

Unprecedented Accuracy and Consistency

30% Weight Reduction

With a 30% reduction in weight in comparison to traditional brass rounds, True Velocity manufactures ammunition precisely, providing serious shooters with a serious advantage.

The True Velocity .308 WIN composite cartridge is designed for perfection. Included in the custom packaging are 20 state-of-the-art, composite-cased True Velocity rounds loaded with 165-grain Nosler Accubond projectiles. With a 30% reduction in weight compared to traditional brass rounds and unprecedented accuracy and consistency, True Velocity’s precisely manufactured ammunition provides serious shooters with a serious advantage.

The Importance of Ammo Weight Reduction

It is more beneficial to shoot with lighter ammunition, especially when hunting because heavy ammo has a varying, less flat, trajectory. Also, havier ammunition gives a harder recoil when shooting and is more straining to pack around.

Lighter Ammunition is:

  • Higher Velocity
  • Easier to Carry
  • Flattened Trajectory
  • Reduced Recoil

If you are searching for a way to reduce the weight of your ammunition, consider shooting with polymer-cased ammunition on your hunt. Polymer cased ammunition is a great option for hunting.

Lightweight Hunting Ammo Components

Larger caliber ammunition does not need to be heavy. Many avid hunters believe that lighter ammunition is not as effective. Contrary to belief, lightweight hunting ammunition is greatly effective in contrast to the typical, bulky, and heavy ammo commonly cased in brass. The last thing a hunter wants to do on their hunt is being exhausted after the first few miles because of heavy gear. Unnecessary weight of ammunition will make for an uncomfortable hunt. Make hunting for that deer more efficient and enjoyable by shooting polymer cased ammunition, the extremely light ammo casing material.

Best Hunting Ammunition

When hunting this season, it is essential to consider every ounce of weight your ammunition totals and the accuracy of each cartridge. As said previously, it is common to carry a lot of weight along with your hunt. If you are able to decrease the weight of your bag and equipment, you can make your trip more enjoyable by minimizing physical wear and tear. Hunt with True Velocity .308 WIN – Nosler AccuBond this season for an optimal experience.

Designed for Perfection

Included in the custom packaging are 20 state-of-the-art, True Velocity rounds loaded with 165-grain Nosler Accubond projectiles. These rouds are composite-cased. The boat-tail base at the back of the bullet work as a platform for wid diameter mushrooms. The Accubond is designed to mushroom but stay together. True Velocity takes pride in the quality, thoroughly thought-out designs. They understand that every detail matters in the products they produce.

Elevate Your Shooting

If you are hunting for big game or you are just looking to lighten the load of your ammunition, we recommend switching your ammunition to polymer cartridges. Polymer is a top-of-the-line material used for the creation of many products. It is of the lightest ammo casings used in the manufacturing of ammo casings and other everyday items. Polymer provides improved accuracy, ultimate strength, lighter components, and lighter recoil. Testing Ammo at 100 and 700 Yards

True Velocity challenges their polymer-cased, Nozzler Custom Competition .308 Winchester against the best match-grade factory ammunition around. We wanted to see how True Velocity polymer-cased, Nozzler Custom Competition .308 Winchester ammunition compares at 100 yards and 700 yards.  We collaborated with our friend Jeff from Desert Tech. Desert Tech provided a few of their select rifles for the testing of the Polymer-cased, Nozzler Custom Competition .308 Winchester against a few other ammunitions. We will be taking into consideration the chronograph data.

What is chronograph data?

The word ‘chronograph’ means ‘time recorder’. Chronograph usually is tracked by watches to measure periods of time. When we test out ammunition, we test the FPS, which is short for feet per second, of each shot to receive chronograph data.

Polymer-cased, Nozzler Custom Competition .308 Winchester Comparison

  • Gold Medal MatchKing
  • Hornady Tap
  • Bonded Tip Match
  • Speer Gold Dot
  • Tipped MatchKing

For each ammunition tested, we shot 5 times at 100 yards and select ammunition at 700 yards. Below are the results of each ammunition shot at 100 yards. The circled target is the True Velocity Polymer-cased, Nozzler Custom Competition .308 Winchester ammunition.

100 Yards Shooting Result

  2. Top Right: Tactical Tipped Federal
  3. Middle Left: Speer Gold Dot
  4. Middle Right: True Velocity
  5. Bottom Left: Gold Medal MatchKing
  6. Bottom Right: Hornady Tap

At 100 yards, it is clear to see how accurate each shot was and that they are fairly similar. With that being said, it is important to acknowledge that there are a few of the tests that can be viewed as considerably better.

These two are quite similar in comparison to accuracy. On the 700 yard rage, we monitored The True Velocity ammunition and the Gold Medal MatchKing closely.

700 Yards Shooting Result

We took the True Velocity ammunition and the Gold Medal MatchKing for testing at 700 yards.  In the image below, you can see the results.
